Main Resposibilities and Duties:

1. Hands-on experience working closely with clients and local business unit leads in China, HK, Taiwan and Macau. You will need to understand and maintain full alignment with our business teams on our strategies, goals and needs when providing legal advice;

2. Lead local contract reviews and support regional/ global high-value and complex contract negotiations with multi-jurisdictional elements. You will need to be comfortable in supporting complex commercial negotiations;

3. Ensure our business conducts its operations in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will be assisting with the development and recommendation of local policies and position on legal issues; 

4. Advise on local regulations, prepare and file notification/ approvals with regulators and support on investigations;

5.  Advise on a wide range of employment law including employment contract, HR policies and processes, labour union, restructuring, discrimination, performance management, disciplinary actions, terminations and separation agreements

6. Lead and oversee litigious matters, proceedings, filings etc in China, HK, Taiwan and Macau; 

7. Prepare and deliver training to local and regional business stakeholders on key local topics;

8. Support corporate secretarial needs and prepare reports to the boards of directors; 

9. Managing relationships with external counsel, overseeing the work of external counsel and ensuring that they deliver accurate levels of service and provide appropriate recommendations in line with business need and budget; and

10. Be an active and key member of the regional and global GWS Legal team to ensure that the legal experience and issues faced in the sub-region for relevant topics (e.g. severance, taxes etc) are shared on a global level.

Requirements:

1. PRC Qualified Lawyer from a reputable university with strong academic background;

2. 6-10 years of post-qualification experience in a multi-national environment (either in law firms or an in-house legal department); 

3. Excellent command of English and Mandarin, both spoken and written;

4. Will be able to participate in and influence the decision making process with appropriate clients and stakeholders at all levels; 

5. Practical and solution focused with ability to independently handle legal matters and good at execution; 

6. Strategic thinker with strong problem solving and project management skills; 

7. Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills; 

8. Solid technical legal expertise

9. Adaptable, quick learner and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

10. Experience advising US-based companies on Chinese legal, regulatory, employment and tax issues a strong plus.  

11. Experience in Real Estate industry or facilities management outsourcing industry a plus but not a requirement
